Orbit 5 DEVLOG #0

I decided to start a devlog series on the development process for Orbit 5 as I thought it might be interesting and also to help me to maintain motivation and keep coming up with ideas.

Orbit 5 is made in the godot engine and has been a project of mine for quite some time now. The first playtest will release on the 1st of December, so it would be really appreciated if you joined the playtest linked here and got some other people to join as well. (plus, all playtesters will get their own mention in the credits with a username of their choice in the full release)

Essentially orbit 5 is a goofy game where you play as a space pilot who has to fight evil alien slime in a solar system on the edge of the milky way, VV-WUT-08 (play on VVV-WIT-08, an actual solar system discovered in the VVV survey in 2021). All the names of the planets, aliens and people are goofy as aah which quite nicely fits the style of the game. It has quite a generic storyline, the solar system is living happily with the humans spread across the planets, when a distant ancient species called the GloomGob (remember I said goofy names?) arrives and makes an attempt to own the solar system and kill everyone. After a few years, a group of people from the planet Thornwood decide they've had enough and make 5 ships called 'the orbits' with the most elite pilots in the solar system (one being you) to defeat the slime. However, slime spies the people don't know about hear the plans and report back to the other slime what's going on. After hearing this, the slime destroy 4 of the orbits, leaving only orbit 5, your ship. You manage to escape, Knowing that it is upon you to defeat the GloomGob and save the solar system.

Currently, there are 4 types of slime; the Vexslime, the Zorgslime, the Bwargslime and the Boltslime. the Vex is fast but not very strong, the Bwarg is slow and doesn't really do much, the Zorg is very slow but has a lot of health and does a lot of damage and the Boltslime shoots slime bullets at you.

Next devlog I will be able to talk about the actual process of development instead of just a description of the game.
